A 7-day Detox Diet Will Leave You Feeling Fantastic

Modern science and technology has paved the way for the commercialization of food products. As population growth rate continue to rise, scientists and manufacturers continue to find ways to increase food production.

They have developed ways to make food readily available and easier to prepare. Pigs grew to a very large size in just a few months and farm crops can be harvested earlier and faster. Although they say that this will solve the increasing demand for plant and animal food products, some nutritionists and medical experts disagree.

They say that most food products available in the market have become inorganic and unnatural. Most vegetables and fruits sold in supermarkets are no longer grown naturally. It is now difficult to find fruits and vegetables that are free from chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers. The use of food additives and preservatives has become acceptable to the public. However, many dieticians and nutritionists have pointed out that excessive intake of inorganic and processed foods can lead to various health problems.


Canned and processed foods, for example, leave traces of harmful toxins to the body. Although it is only small in amount, in due time, it will accumulate to a large amount which our body can no longer handle. These toxins make our body more vulnerable and susceptible to different types of disease-causing pathogens. Though you may not have any disease right now, these toxins can gradually weaken your body’s immune system. Your primary defense against bacteria and viruses is compormised.

One way to boost your body’s defenses against harmful pathogens is to get rid of those toxins through detoxification. Our body regularly performs detoxification. It eliminates toxins through perspiration, urination, bowel movement, and even breathing. However, if these toxins have piled up all over your body, it may be hard for your liver, kidneys, intestines and lungs to eliminate them. The ideal way to detoxify your body is to undergo a 7-day detox diet program.

With this diet program, you have to drastically change your eating habits for a week. One week of detoxification will not guarantee the elimination of all toxins in your body but this will certainly give your body a head start.  Some toxins may have built up in your system for a long time and it may take a while for it to be completely removed that’s why experts suggest detoxifying your body periodically.

Fruits and Vegetables

This diet program mainly consists of fruits and vegetables. Organic and natural fruit juices as well as vegetables are known to be effective in helping the body get rid of harmful toxins. When you’ve decided to go on a 1 week detox diet, you should always avoid taking any processed foods, carbonated or caffeinated beverages, alcohol, or drugs. Just keep in mind that toxins cause aging, cell damage, lethargy, liver and lung problems, and allergies. Abstaining from your favorite foods for a week will surely be worth it.

There is no fixed or specific 7-day detox diet plan. Most menus only consist of raw fruits and vegetables while some include a small amount of yogurt, beans, or fish. You may use seasonings such as pepper or basil. Use of regular table salt, however, should be avoided. You may use olive oil when cooking but only in minimal amounts because oil contains fat. Nutritionists recommend steaming or stir frying vegetables. You should avoid gluten-rich foods such as wheat and yeast which are thought to promote the growth of some intestinal pathogens. Also, drink filtered instead of chlorinated water.

Lemon Juice and Water

In the morning, immediately after waking up, drink a glass of water mixed with a squeezed half lemon juice. All throughout the week, drink 8-10 glasses of filtered water per day. For breakfast, you can have a fruit salad of mango, melon, pineapple, papaya, and strawberries mixed with honey or maple syrup. You can also make toasted non-wheat bread with honey. Combine your favorite organic fruits, yogurt, and honey in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour to a cup and serve.

Detox Lunch

For lunch, you can have a cabbage or chicken soup served with brown rice. Simmer green vegetables and serve with toasted non-wheat bread. You can also have steamed vegetables served with non-wheat pasta and tomato sauce. Make a baked potato served with lightly steamed vegetables.

Detox Dinner

For dinner, steam some green vegetables and serve with baked salmon. Mash potatoes and serve with steamed vegetables and fish. You can also stir-fry some green vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, and bean sprouts in olive oil with garlic and onions and serve with brown rice. A 7-day detox diet will not only help your body get rid of harmful toxins, but it will also help you lose weight, be more relaxed and lively.
