Be Healthy with an Holistic Detox

Many people are starting to get conscious of their health as serious diseases are wreaking havoc in today’s society.

Although being aware is a good sign, many of us still have a wrong notion on what’s healthy and what’s not. For example, most of us use pharmaceutical drugs or synthetic vitamin supplements to ward off harmful pathogens.

In addition, many individuals who are fat or overweight don’t know how to lose weight naturally. The most common method used to lose weight is to go dieting. They usually drastically change their diet by reducing the amount of food they take. Although adhering to a strict low-calorie diet will help you achieve your desired weight, there is an alternative and healthier way of slimming down while keeping your body protected from harmful microorganisms.

Helps Reduce Weight

Body detoxification is a healthy way of increasing your body’s defenses against diseases and also reducing weight. Detoxification is the process of removing or eliminating chemical toxins in the body’s system. This occurs naturally and toxins are usually removed via the skin, lungs, liver, kidneys, and the intestinal tract.

Many food products and drugs manufactured today are packed with numerous chemical substances and preservatives. Eating too much canned and processed foods or foods jam-packed with additives and preservatives will make it hard for your body to naturally eliminate harmful toxins. When these toxins pile up and accumulate deep in our body’s tissues, it will weaken your immune system making you more vulnerable to harmful pathogens. Toxins, according to some experts, can even increase body weight because it often accumulates in adipose tissues (fats) and in the liver. Without removing these toxins, even if you cut down your calorie intake, it would still be hard for you to shed those extra pounds.

Emotional and Spiritual Transformation

One of the most recommended detox programs by health experts today is holistic detox. Unlike most detox programs which only concentrate on removing chemical toxins inside the body, holistic detoxification programs also include emotional and spiritual transformation. Many people who undergo detox programs usually go back to their regular lifestyle after the diet regimen. Many will start eating their favorite foods again which will bring back toxins to the body. Holistic detoxification programs are designed to help you change your eating habits and maintain a healthy lifestyle. It is called holistic because it will help you develop health consciousness all throughout your life, not only during your diet regimen.

Holistic detox is a non-conventional way of helping you develop a healthy biological and emotional make-up. The time you will undergo the holistic diet plan is not fixed and it may last for a week or even three weeks. Removing toxins from your body will enhance your body’s defense mechanism; help you establish a regular bowel movement; regulate your sleep pattern; increase your physical energy; and enhance your focus and attention.

Eat Organic Foods

The holistic detoxification program gives emphasis on eating natural and organic fruits and vegetables. It strongly recommends avoiding eating fruits and vegetables grown with pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, and other chemicals. Even in small amounts, these chemicals will leave traces of toxins in your body.  Raw fruits and vegetables are very rich in essential nutrients and vitamins which help maintain the normal function of the body’s cells. It also contains antioxidants that fight free radicals thereby prolonging the lifespan of the body’s cells.

While undergoing detoxification, you should avoid eating or drinking salty and fatty foods, sweets like chocolates, red meat, alcohol, caffeine, carbonated beverages, cream, and gluten. Most of these have artificial flavorings and preservatives which can introduce toxins to the body. Gluten rich foods like wheat and yeast are also prohibited because it can help increase the number of toxin-producing fungus such as Candida albicans in the intestines.

Colon Hydrotherapy

Another way to detoxify is to undergo colon hydrotherapy which is usually done by a professional. This method involves introducing and pumping liquids such as water into the colon by using a tube passed through the anus. This will thoroughly clean the colon and remove mucus and fecal material in the lower intestines. Cleansing and detoxifying the liver is also one way of removing toxins from the body. Liver cleansing products are usually available in local health food stores.

Besides diet, colon and liver cleansing, exercise is also a part of the holistic detox program. Regular exercise like jogging for 20-30 minutes a day has been proven to increase blood circulation and improve breathing thereby hastening the elimination of harmful toxins. It also induces perspiration which is one of the natural ways the body uses to detoxify itself.

While on a detox diet, most probably on the 2nd day, you might feel fatigued, dizzy, or nauseated. This is actually a good sign and means that your body is beginning to detoxify. Toxins that have been stored deep in your system are released to the bloodstream so that it can be removed by the liver and kidneys.

Although undergoing holistic detox is safe, make sure to first consult your physician. Health experts don’t recommend it to individuals who have compromised immune systems or those who have preexisting medical conditions. It is also not advisable to pregnant and lactating mothers.
